Subdomain
A subdomain is the part before the main domain (e.g. blog in blog.example.com).

In plain English
The part in front of the main domain name—like “blog” in blog.example.com or “mail” in mail.example.com. Each can have its own DNS and server.
A subdomain is a prefix to a domain name, creating a distinct address (e.g. blog.example.com, api.example.com). Subdomains have their own DNS records (often CNAME or A records) and can point to different servers or services.
Our DNS and WHOIS tools let you inspect records for both the main domain and its subdomains.
